WIT Boot Camp 2015

GGC WIT Summer Boot Camp will be held from May 14 – May 16, 2015. The purpose of this boot camp is to:

  • Prepare students to succeed in the Java Programming courses
    • Group for beginners who have never taken programming
    • Group for students who have been exposed to Java through introduction to programming and would like a refresher to prepare for other IT classes
  • Enable women in IT to form a community of support with peers, student mentors, and IT faculty
  • Provide professional development opportunities such as guest speakers and off-campus field trips

The duration of the boot camp will vary daily and the time will be used for programming labs, Tech Talks, peer mentoring sessions and plenty of breaks. Participants will be expected to work on a project and can expect assistance from instructors and student mentors.

Schedule of  WIT Boot Camp 2015

Thursday, May 14
1:00 – 2:45 pm: Boot camp kick–off, surveys, food
2:45 – 4:15 pm: Programming Session #1
4:15 – 5:15 pm: Faculty Programming Panel
5:30 pm: End of day 1

Friday, May 15
8:30 – 9 am: Breakfast
9 – 11:30 am: Programming Session #2
11:30 am – 1 pm: Lunch and Learn (guest speaker)
1 – 3:30: Programming Session #3
3:30 – 4:30 pm: Student Panel
4:30 pm: Wrap up, leave by 4:45 pm

Saturday, May 16
8:30 – 9 am: Breakfast
9 – 11:30 am: Programming Session #4
11:30 am – 1 pm  Lunch and Learn (alumni)
1 – 2 pm: Post-surveys and Post test
2-2:30 pm Closing ceremony

There is a $25 fee for participating in the boot camp. The fee includes a t-shirt, meals, and other required supplies.
